Watermark University Classes Open to Fairfield County Senior Citizens

The Watermark at 3030 Park is pleased to announce the kickoff of its Fall 2012 Watermark University semester, with course catalogs now available to seniors in Fairfield County. Watermark University is a continuing education program designed with topics and programs to keep seniors’ minds and bodies fit.

“Whether you seek entertainment, knowledge or fitness, Watermark University has something for everyone,” said Chris Romick, Executive Director of The Watermark at 3030 Park. “We are proud to offer more than 80 classes this semester for our residents and guests of the community.”

Watermark University features a variety of courses, including “Safe Tea” with instructor Angela DeLeon, on Tuesday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. The course is designed to help seniors identify common financial scams and recognize the signs and practices associated with these scams. DeLeon is the creator and coordinator of the People’s United Bank Masters Program, a nationally recognized program in crime prevention and awareness for senior citizens. All non-Watermark residents are asked to RSVP for the class in advance.

Another Watermark University class is “Tips for Aging Well” with instructor Bea Berger, a licensed professional counselor and resident of The Watermark at 3030 Park. She will discuss the aging process and give tips on how to improve your mental and physical well-being as you age, as well as present current research on keeping your brain sharp and healthy. The class is will be on Wednesday, September 19 at 11 a.m.

The fitness dance class Zumba Gold is also being offered on Tuesdays at 1pm and 2pm. Instructor Suzanne Palazzi is teaching this semester’s “Latin Dance Craze” class, which has been shown to have many positive effects on the body including increased bone density, faster metabolism, improved balance and a boost in mood. There is a $5 fee per class for anyone wishing to join.
