Shanghai Asian Bistro is SoNo’s Newest Gem

(Norwalk, Conn. February 11, 2013) -- Asian food enthusiasts should run, not walk to Shanghai Asian Bistro, one of South Norwalk newest eateries.  Located on “Restaurant Row” in the historic district at 124 Washington Street, the Bistro appeals to Thai, sushi and traditional Chinese food lovers alike.  

Run by husband and wife team, John Jiang and Sophia Lin, Shanghai Asian Bistro is the fourth in their string of established Asian restaurants.  Their other locations include Zhang’s in both Madison and Old Saybrook and Westport’s Shanghai Gourmet, largely a take-out operation and popular Post Road hallmark for the last dozen years.  Mr. Jiang scoped out Washington Street a while back, then secured his locale with broker, Laura Leeds of Simon David Real Estate.  “The location was a great match for John and Sophia’s new Bistro since it’s in the heart of South Norwalk’s best dining neighborhood.  Its eclectic menu offers a great culinary experience for professionals, families, and residents of Norwalk and neighboring towns,” said Leeds.   

Shanghai Asian Bistro offers both sushi and sake bars and their Lychee Martini is a much-requested house special.  As spring and summer approach, Happy Hour will return on Monday - Wednesday, from 3:00 - 6 p.m., with 1/2 price specials on sushi and hand rolls as well as $4.00 beers.  Sports events are also shown at the bar and outdoor dining -- perfect for boating visitors -- will also return with warmer weather.  

The Bistro’s menu is vast and varied with an exotic, Pan-Asian influence.  Some sushi favorites include the Black Tuna Taco as well as the Yellowtail with Jalapeno.  In addition, their hand rolls sport entertaining names like “Kamikaze Roll,” “Angry Dragon Roll” and “Pink Lady Roll,” not to mention their unique combination of seafood, vegetables and spicy sauces.  Traditional favorites like General Tso’s Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Ginger Duck are served, while sushi and sashimi entrees are available too.  At the Bistro’s Grand Opening last summer, Norwalk Mayor, Richard A. Moccia, was quoted as saying “This is the best Pad Thai I’ve ever had.”      

Unlike some other Washington Street restaurants, Shanghai Asian Bistro is open seven days, serving both lunch and dinner. “My wife and I seek to accommodate a diverse customer base.  We’re happy to serve the Norwalk community and beyond with our extended hours,” said Jiang.  Walking distance from The Maritime Aquarium, the Bistro is the ideal lunch spot for families and the 11:00 p.m. weekend closing is perfect for movie goers and the late-night crowd.  Shanghai Asian Bistro also welcomes large group outings and will cater corporate events.
