Richard “Rocky” Joseph DeAngelis, husband of Angela DeAngelis of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2012 at the Norwalk Hospital. He was 85. Born March 18, 1927 in the Norwalk Hospital, he was son of the late Mario and Amelia DeAngelis.
Rocky was a life-long Norwalk resident. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He joined the Norwalk Police Department in 1957 and rose through the ranks to Sargent. He retired there in 1987 and worked for the halfway house in Norwalk and as a Sherriff at the Stamford Courthouse.
He went on to serve for another 17 years as a “Special” for the Westport Police until 2005. His favorite pastime was collecting classic cars and he was a member of the Coachman Rod and Custom Car Club in Norwalk for many years. He will be remembered as a devoted family man and loving husband.
In addition to his wife Angela, he is survived by his son Richard DeAngelis Jr. of Norwalk and by 3 grandchildren, Richard DeAngelis III and Joseph and Kari DeAngelis. He is also survived by his sister Angelina Spanoghe; by 4 step-grandchildren, Miranda, Sofia, Luciano, and Reno; and by his wife’s 3 step-children, Frank, Pamela, and Mary Ann; and by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Parkway Assembly of God, 260 New Canaan Avenue, Norwalk. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
