Ponus Ridge Middle School Goes Around the World at International Festival

On Wednesday, June 6, 6th grade Ponus Ridge Middle School students, families and friends took virtual trips to such interesting places as Seychelles, Ukraine, Jamaica, India, Germany, Barbados, Columbia, Peru, and many more during the school’s annual International Festival.

Students and visitors discovered the rich diversity of cultures that exists at Ponus Ridge as they visited student-created presentations showcasing their family heritage and sampled a typical food dish from the country.   “This is a fun and enriching learning experience both for the students and for visiting families and friends,” says sixth grade Social Studies teacher Racquel Sesler  organized the event.  “We have children whose families come from all over the world and it’s important for them to learn about different cultures in order to recognize, respect and celebrate this diversity.”

Ponus Ridge Middle School is one of 19 schools in the Norwalk Public School district.  Norwalk Public Schools  ensures that the 11,000 students in its schools succeed academically and achieve their full potential preparing them for post-secondary learning and a life of meaning and purpose. Through rigorous classroom instruction based on the Common Core Standards, high expectations, and excellence in instruction, NPS builds upon Norwalk’s diversity through a collaborative culture, partnership with parents, and commitment to individuality and growth.
