Norwalk Police are requesting donations of clothing, school supplies and gift cards for two young girls whose mother is in jail.
The girls, ages 7 and 11, came to the attention of police the night of March 7, when they were found walking on Manresa Island with their mother, Renee Blaise, who was naked.
Blaise was taken to Norwalk Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and later arrested on two counts of risk of injury to a minor. She remains in custody in lieu of posting a $20,000 bond.
The girls will be living with relatives in New York.
Friday morning, police spokewoman Sgt. Lisa Cotto announced the department is requesting donations for the girls. She said police found their residence was basically empty of items for them, such as clothing and school supplies. It's possible, she said, they haven't been attending school.
New or used clothing in good condition can be dropped off at police headquarters at 1 Monroe St., at the intersection of South Main St. and Monroe St., in South Norwalk at any hour. Cotto said school supplies and gift cards are also requested.
The girls' clothing sizes: Pants or jeans, girl sizes 14 slim and 8 slim; shirts, girl sizes 12 and 8; dresses suitable for attending church, sizes 14 and 8.
