The Norwalk Fire Department is now accepting applications
for the position of Firefighter. An examination process has been scheduled for December 10, 2012. Applications are available on line at http://www.norwalkct.org/personnel. That process will include a written examination. The top seventy five candidates from the written exam will be
State of Ct Fire Academy to be eligible for employment.
The Department will conduct several candidate orientation
sessions over the course of the summer to detail the testing process and to give prospective candidates the opportunities and practice at the written,interview and physical requirements of the selection process. Applicants will be notified by email when and where those sessions will be held. So it is important for prospective applicants to complete an application as soon as possible. The Department is determined to increase minority
representation on the department. Chief McCarthy explained. “A Fire Department that more closely reflects the diversity of the community can provide better services to the community. We have our work cut out for us. We are looking to attract a larger percentage of minority and
female applicants to the process. He continued, “A fire service career is very rewarding and challenging. Firefighters go home at the end of each shift
knowing that they have made the city safer, prevented a tragedy from being worse and met the basic mission of the fire service ‘to save lives and protect property’”
Deputy Chief Todd Smith explained that Norwalk residents will receive a five point edge in the testing process. “The
city and the department recognizes the value of residents who are familiar with the community and what an advantage add as part of our public safety mission”
