Today in Norwalk: Lorikeets, Sunshine and Cool Evening Yoga

Here's what to know and where to go in and around Norwalk for Wednesday, Aug. 21st, 2013:

  • The National Weather Services has predicted another gorgeous day in Norwalk with a high near 88. NWS predicts light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.
  • Back to school countdown: Just 8 days remain until school resumes. The first day for all students at Norwalk Public Schools is Thursday, Aug. 29th according to the 2013-14 calendar on the Norwalk Public Schools website. (A staggered entry for students begins Aug. 28th).

  • Visit the Lorikeets exhibit at Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk before it's too late. The exhibit runs through Labor Day, Sept. 2nd, and offers a living aviary with 55 colorful Lorikeets  - in 11 different species - from Indonesia, Australia and Papua New Guinea.  Expect to get up close and personal. When you arrive you, get a cup of nectar and the tropical birds may land on your hand, your arm or even on your head to feed on the nectar.

  • Yoga, anyone? Get Stretching at the Norwalk Library during this Yoga Class taught by teachers from Saraswati's Yoga Joint! The class runs from 6:00pm-7:00pm at 1 Belden Ave., in the full auditorium and is open to adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration is not necessary but the program is limited to the first 80 people who arrive. Be sure to bring some water to stay hydrated and a yoga mat or towel. Yoga is part of Norwalk Library's Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies program, sponsored by FactSet.
