Another tip...
Try to "touch" incoming mail, email, etc. only once. Resolve it there and…Read More then; avoid putting into your "pending" folder. Make this a 'game' by challenging yourself to " just do it"
Then you will have more time to focus on longer term projects

It takes more time to complete this MBA thesis style organizational management skills development…Read More program than to just continue to sift through the paperwork til you find what you're looking for. Funny how we are either perfectionists or hoarders; very little in between. Maybe because it's all about what's going on inside the head? A cluttered mind is a cluttered desk is a cluttered lifestyle. The opposite is true w/ one caveat; an organized perfectionist also suffers from OCD. Perhaps we all need to live in the grey area to be considered sane of mind and healthy.

"Tired," you make a really good point. The drinking age being lowered from 21 to 18 puts…Read More parents in an awkward position - they drank legally at 18 but their kids can't. I'm not so sure they're "developing a wine palette" as much as hoping their kid will experiment at home where it's safe rather than drink in college where there is binge drinking, pre-gaming, and peer pressure. How do you prepare your kid for that?

Good advice. But the conversation never goes anywhere. I think some parents' desire to drink…Read More outweighs their desire to be a good parents.
I still shake my head. I know a fellow who openly admits he gives his young children wine and beer. I'm talking kids as young as middle school. He gives them alcohol and then asked what they think. He is trying to develop their wine palette at this young age. This fellow thinks of himself as an upstanding member of the community. He is also a sports coach. I'm horrified.
Local Parent April 16, 2013 at 02:37 pm
Great article. I would advise parents to include "premarital sex" in the discussion of…Read More high risk activities as well (which often goes hand-in-hand with drinking.) We are not the parents of the 50's. STD's are a national epidemic which we treat with a shot rather than education to modify behavior.
The bottom line is children's brains do not fully develop until into their 20's and giving the the "information" to make wise choices and then "empowering" them is not enough. We still need to guide and watch them - and talk to them. Our role as parents is to help them grow up safe an healthy - including disease-free. It is sad to see teens assuming adult stances on issues of sexuality - while their brains aren't fully developed, leading them to make those choices that can have life-long negative effects.
Bravo for parents!

Alethiologist -- At this point, I'm flagging your post. You are clearly intending to post it in…Read More unrelated threads to get people talking about what you want to talk about. At least the other thread was just about electric cars, but now you are posting it under a column about a child that was murdered in Newtown. How disrespectful and thoughtless.

I was interviewed on Channel 12 News in 2006 as a representative of the CT Physical Therapy…Read More Reimbursement Committee when this Bill was passed. We have been able to help hundreds of injured athletes, weekend warriors, etc. because of this bill. Many times I have referred these patients out for further medical attention but more times than not I was able to immediately start treating them and get them on a quicker route to recovery. I have since then seen many of these people on a Direct Access basis. The public simply needs to be better educated on their ability to go directly to a physical therapist of their choosing.
