Protective Orders Placed Against Man Accused of Stabbing Dog

Father - son argument triggers dog to bark.

An argument between a man and his father Sunday morning resulted in the man stabbing his girlfriend's dog because it was barking, police said.

The argument, according to police, was between Vamond Elmore and his 61-year-old father, who returned to his Hanford Street home to find a group of people, including Elmore's girlfriend,  watching the Floyd Mayweather - Miguell Cotto boxing match on pay per view TV.

The father told Elmore he objected to them being in his home and Elmore began arguing with .  At some point his girlfriend's pit bull dog who was in the room began barking and Elmore said his father always took the dog's side.

At that point Elmore allegedly got a knife and stabbed the dog. His girlfriend told officers the dog was leashed and muzzled.

Police were called, and Elmore, 35, of 5 Hanford Place, was placed under arrest, charged with cruelty to animals, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault. Police set a $100,000 bond on him and he was scheduled to appear on Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Sometime after his arrest Elmore made bond, but he appeared in court Monday to have protective orders placed against him on behalf of his girlfriend and his father.  In the order protecting his girlfriend, Judge Maureen D. Dennis told him he could not come within 100 yards of her or any pet she owns.

The woman took her dog to the VCA Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center on West Cedar Street where it was treated for a 1 inch gash wound near his left side back leg. Police said the wound did not appear to be life threatening.
