Police Taser Man After Car Accident

Norwalk Police use Taser on man acting irrationally after car accident.

Norwalk Police had to Taser a man after he allegedly started to act irrationally after being stopped for leaving the scene of a car accident. James Scates, 42, of 83 Morgan Road in Stamford, was arrested and charged with evading responsibility and reckless driving. Bond was set at $10,000.

According to police officials, they received a call about a one-car accident on 481 Flax Hill Road at 1 p.m on Tuesday. A man said to be Scates, was driving a 2001 Dodge and apparently struck a utility pole, then continued on down the same street. An officer from the Norwalk Police came upon the car of Scates at 435 Rowayton Avenue and Scates was observed resting on a concrete staircase nearby.

The police report stated that Scates looked disoriented and became agitated. A police officer allegedly tried to calm Scates down, but he walked away and then snapped what appeared to be a lawn lamp. He then made a menacing pose, according to police officials. Scates ran down a driveway with an officer in pursuit. Police officials said Scates was Tasered and brought to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation. Upon his release from the hospital, Scates was arrested and charged. Scates posted bond at 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
