After missing the FCIAC playoffs and faltering a bit down the stretch, the boys basketball team is seeded 27th in the Class LL state tournament and will play at No. 6 Fairfield Prep in the first round on Tuesday ( 7 p.m.).

Should Norwalk pull off the upset, it would take on either No. 11 Westhill or No. 22 Norwich Free Academy in the second round on Thursday.

Fairfield Prep (19-3), however, will be a tough first-round opponent. The Jesuits feature William & Mary-bound Terry Tarpey, who is averaging close to 25 points per game, and reached the Class LL state finals last season for the first time since 1997, losing to St. Joseph.

The Jesuits advanced to the the semifinals of the SCC tournament, losing to eventual champion Career 73-53 on Monday, so they figured to be highly motivated heading into the state tournament. That loss snapped a 14-game winning streak for Fairfield Prep.

Norwalk lost four of its final seven games, but did rout Harding 87-50 in its regular-season finale.
