Norwalk resident Jared Palmer fell Monday in the first round of the men's doubles in the 40-and-over division of the USTA National Grass Court Championships.

Palmer and partner Lorne Abony of Palm Beach, Fla., lost to No. 2 seeds Mario Tabares of Miami and Kyle Permut of Great Neck, N.Y., 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, at Forest Hills, N.Y.

A New York native, Palmer recently moved to Norwalk after living in Palo Alto, Calif., and Stockholm.

After winning the NCAA singles championship at Stanford, Palmer turned professional. He experienced limited success in singles, winning his only ATP Tour title in 1994.

However, Palmer won 28 doubles titles in his career. His best year came in 2001, when he claimed six doubles tournaments.
