1. Norwalk Eliminated From Legion Northeast Regionals

The Norwalk senior American Legion team was eliminated from the Northeast Regionals on Sunday following a 9-5 loss to Whitestown
(N.Y) at the Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach in the loser's bracket finals.

Whitestown advanced to take on Bedford, N.H., in the championship game. Bedford dropped Norwalk into the loser's bracket with a 4-2 victory on Saturday.

James Welch took the loss on Sunday for Norwalk, allowing six runs and nine hits over five-plus innings. He walked five and struck out four.

Norwalk (28-10) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI doubles by Kevin Daniele and Scott Angeley, but Whitestown answered with a pair in the bottom half.

Whitestown tacked on two runs in the fifth, then broke it open with five runs in the sixth to build a 9-2 cushion.

Norwalk scored three runs in the seventh after loading the bases with no outs on a single by Spencer Jacoby, a walk to Eric Stenger and a single by Matt Ederle, but its rally fell short.

Dan Smith earned the win, surrendered five runs - four earned - and seven hits over seven innings. Zack Gnatek followed with two scoreless frames.

2. McDonagh falls in Met Amateur

Shorehaven's Tommy McDonagh fell to Greenwich's David Pastore 4 and 3 on Friday in the first-round of match play in the 109th Met Amatuer championship at Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley, N.Y.

McDonagh, the reigning Connecticut state amateur champion, tied for 12th in qualifying with a 36-hole total of 143 (75-68).  

McDonagh and Pastore, who plays out of the Griff Harris Club, were the only players from Fairfield County to qualify for match play.

3. Mike Garrity basketball summer camp

The Mike Garrity Elite Basketball Summer Camp at Compo Beach is set for the weeks of Aug. 15-19 and Aug. 22-26 from 2-4 p.m. each day.

The camp will be geared toward players from kindergarten through eighth grade and campers will be broken into groups based on age and skill level.

The camp stresses fundamentals. Development will come through drills, lectures and competition. Cost is $275 with a $75 discount for all players that sign up for both weeks.
