Norwalk Fund Manager Wants Charges Dismissed in Flying Porsche Incident

Police allege defendant's Porsche Carrera was airborne for almost 42 feet before crashing into a Rowayton front porch.

A Norwalk resident and private equity fund manager whose Porsche reportedly became airborne before it crashed into a house in November applied Wednesday to participate in an alcohol-education program with the goal of having criminal charges against him dismissed.

Russell M. Stidolph, 35, of 19 Bluff Ave., appeared in state Superior Court in Norwalk with his lawyer, Eugene J. Riccio, who submitted paperwork requesting Stidolph be able to attend state supervised classes on the hazards of consuming alcohol and driving, and possibly receive treatment for alcohol addiction.

At the same time, Riccio applied for Stidolph be considered for accelerated rehabilitation, a special form of probation that allows persons who have no criminal convictions and who are not accused of a serious felony to have charges against them dismissed if they successfully complete a program assigned to them by the state.

Firefighters extricated Stidolph from the wreckage of his 2008 Porsche Carrera the night of Nov. 19 after, according to police, his car sailed nearly 42 feet over the front lawn of a home at 24 Highland Ave. before crashing into its front porch, causing major structural damage.

In a sworn affidavit Norwalk Police Officer James B. Mosher prepared to obtain an arrest warrant for Stidolph, he said blood and urine samples obtained from the defendant in Norwalk Hospital following the crash indicated he had a blood-alcohol equivalent of 0.204.

State law says a driver is under the influence of alcohol with a blood-alcohol content at or above 0.08.

On Jan. 3, Stidolph was arrested, charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to use a seat belt, and traveling unreasonably fast.

He was released after posting a $5,000 bond.

Stidolph will return to court on Feb. 23 to learn if he’s been found qualified for the alcohol education program and accelerated rehabilitation.

Stidolph is founder and managing director of AltEnergy L.L.C., a private equity firm focusing on alternative energy sources. The firm, founded in 2001,  is based at 137 Rowayton Ave.
