Howard Stern's 'Baba Booey' Named a Greenwich Park & Rec Commish

Follows Bobby Valentine as public safety chief in Stamford (so which celeb will we get in Norwalk?).

Radio personality Howard Stern and legions of fans call him ‘Baba Booey.”

The producer of  “The Howard Stern Show” is really long-time Greenwich resident Gary Dell’Abate, a fixture at Little League and other  youth athletic events.

That level of community involvement took a step forward last week when he was appointed a member of the Greenwich Parks and Recreation Commission, in a unanimous vote by the Board of Selectmen.

Selectman Drew Marzullo made an enthusiastic nomination. “He sits on many charitable organizations. He has two young children in Greenwich Public Schools and has a commitment to … Parks and Recreation,” Marzullo said. “He’s lived in town for 17 years and is a volunteer coach” for several teams, Marzullo added.

In seconding the nomination, Selectman David Theis added, “I was impressed with Gary’s knowledge (of the town’s parks system) and his schedule allows him to serve.”

In support of the nomination, First Selectman Peter Tesei said, “I met with him on Tuesday and he is very enthusiastic. He wants to give back to the community and I think he will bring a renewed enthusiasm on the board.”

The three-year appointment to the volunteer position is effective March 31.

No, really: Which celebrity will we get in Norwalk? And for what job? Tell us in the comments.
