Norwalk police say they arrested Jose Garcia-Merano, 69, of Shelton's Huntington area, by warrant and charged him with driving under the influence.
Garcia-Merano was allegedly driving on Scribner Avenue in Norwalk when he rear-ended another vehicle, that vehicle in turn rear-ended another vehicle causing a three car accident.
Garcia-Merano was the only occupant of his vehicle and told officers he “did not speak English,” according to police. When asked if he had been drinking, Garcia-Merano replied, “No, just two beers.” The officer could smell alcohol on Garcia-Merano, who failed a field sobriety test, according to police.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Garcia-Merano also was wanted by Shelton police for his involvement in a separate, Feb. 16, 2011 car accident, police said.
Bond was set at $5,000, police said.
Disturbance on Ely Avenue
Police say they responded to a call about a disturbance on Ely Avenue at 4:09 p.m. Wednesday when a “deaf and mute” woman called about a restraining order against her son.
According to police, the complainant’s son came to retrieve his clothing and was asked to leave. Police said they explained to the woman that the restraining order she filed was not in effect yet.
No arrests have been made.
Two Missing Persons Calls Within 10 Minutes
Norwalk police say they received two unrelated calls regarding missing persons at 5:07 p.m. and 5:17 p.m. Wednesday.
The first came from a concerned parent whose child had taken the wrong bus after school. The child returned home safely.
The second call reported a woman who had gone to the bar with her boyfriend, police said. The woman’s boyfriend was said to reside in New Haven, so Norwalk police notified the New Haven police department. Her whereabouts still under investigation.
